SVG to PNG for favicons and app icons
Most icon workflows still need PNG files at fixed sizes even when you have a clean SVG. LocalSvgPng can produce each size with Custom width; it does not build an .ico, a manifest or HTML tags for you.
Common sizes
- 32×32 and 16×16: classic browser tab favicon PNGs.
- 180×180:
apple-touch-iconfor iOS home screens. iOS fills transparency with black, so use a solid background colour. - 192×192 and 512×512: icons referenced from a web app manifest.
Steps
- Start from a square SVG (viewBox like
0 0 512 512). Non-square art keeps its ratio, so it will not fill a square. - On the converter, choose Custom, type the width (for example 180) and leave height empty.
- For an apple-touch-icon, untick Transparent and choose your brand colour.
- Convert and download, rename to the file name your HTML expects, then repeat for each size.
Small sizes need simpler art
At 16 or 32 px, fine details turn into blur. Rasterising a detailed logo at 16 px is not a bug in the converter; designers usually make a simplified small-size version. Check the result at 100% zoom before you ship it.
FAQ
Can this create a favicon.ico?
No. It only writes PNG. Modern browsers accept PNG and SVG favicons through link rel icon tags; ICO is needed only for very old browsers.
Why is my apple-touch-icon black around the edges?
iOS does not keep transparency for home screen icons and fills it with black. Export with a solid background colour instead of transparent.
My icon is not square. What happens?
The aspect ratio is always kept. A wide logo at width 192 will be less than 192 px tall. Put the logo on a square artboard in your editor if you need a square PNG.
Does the converter add padding or a safe zone?
No. It renders the SVG exactly as its viewBox frames it. Add padding inside the SVG, for example by enlarging the viewBox, if a platform asks for a safe zone.
Can I make all sizes in one click?
No. Run the converter once per size. Batch mode applies one size to many files, not many sizes to one file.
Are icon file names kept?
The PNG is named after the source file with unsafe characters removed and the name capped at 120 characters. Rename it to icon-180.png or similar after download.
